Dr. El Jurdi and her team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are seeking adults and children aged 12 and older with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MDS/MPN) for a clinical research study. This clinical research study is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug, pacritinib. Parental consent is required for minors.

What to Expect

  • Screening period: one to four weeks
  • Medical history review and physical exam
  • Blood tests, including infection screening and pregnancy testing echocardiogram
  • Heart tests, including an ECG and echocardiogram
  • Bone marrow biopsy, if needed to confirm your diagnosis

If You Qualify

  • Take the study drug twice a day by mouth
  • Have standard blood tests at regular intervals
  • Attend study visits at regular intervals while taking the study drug
  • Participate in the study for up to 8 years

Location

The NIH Clinical Center, America's research hospital, is located in Bethesda, Maryland and is accessible by the Metro Red Line (Medical Center stop).
