Dr. Ben Colton serves as the Infectious Diseases and Immunology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. He works collaboratively with the physician scientists of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases providing pharmaceutical care, pharmacotherapy expertise and protocol development and support.

Dr. Colton received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Drake University before completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Colton joined the NIH Clinical Center's Pharmacy Department in 2015. As the Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist, Dr. Colton collaborates with multiple Institutes, Departments and Services across the NIH to build the foundations of an antimicrobial stewardship program, provide pharmacotherapy expertise for the patients of the Infectious Diseases Consult Service and NIAID Inpatient Service, and help train future infectious diseases and immunology physician scientists. He has remained dedicated to research and education throughout his career.
Dr. Colton has held Clinical Associate professor positions with several universities providing both didactic lectures and precepting advanced pharmacy practice students on infectious diseases rotations. He has published research in infectious diseases and has transitioned his focus to the pharmacotherapy of mycobacterial, fungal, and viral infections in immunocompromised populations.
As the Section Chief of the Clinical Specialists Section at the NIH Clinical Center, he helps coordinates the clinical, research, and academic initiatives of a diverse and highly motivated group of Clinical Pharmacy Specialists.
