Dr. Sandhya R. Panch is the medical director for the Center for Cellular Engineering in the NIH Clinical Center’s Department of Transfusion Medicine.

Dr. Panch received her medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, India. Subsequently, she obtained a Master’s in Public Health at the University of Minnesota and a residency in Internal Medicine from Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center.

At the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, she was recruited into the Elaine M. Sloand joint fellowship program in Hematology/Oncology and Transfusion Medicine. She completed a post-doctoral training in molecular hematopoiesis under Cynthia E. Dunbar, at NHLBI prior to joining the NIH Clinical Center's Department of Transfusion Medicine as the medical director for the Center for Cellular Engineering in 2016.

Her research interests include the clinical and translational study of hematopoietic stem cell ontogeny, mobilization and expansion techniques and gene based therapies.

She is an active participant in the CIBMTR donor health and safety committee. She is also lead/associate investigator on several NIH-sponsored clinical and translational studies, with over 40 peer reviewed publications, book chapters, invited lectures and presentations in the areas of Hematology/Oncology, Transfusion Medicine, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cell Therapies.

Currently, she serves as a guest editor for Seminars in Hematology, and as a peer reviewer for the Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Transfusion, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Journal of Translational Medicine, and the Journal of Clinical Apheresis. She also directs training and educational activities for clinical fellows, researchers and blood banking technologists in the CCE and provides ad-hoc consultation on the hematology clinical consult service at the NIH.
