Biosketch

Dr. L. Henry Bryant, Jr. received a BS in Chemistry from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Wake Forest University and a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia with Prof. Robert G. Bryant. He started at the NIH in 1997 as a senior staff fellow with Dr. Joseph A. Frank, where he progressed to his current position as Chemist (Supervisory). Dr. Bryant has been fortunate to be able to stay in the research field of MR contrast agent development, starting with his thesis research on macrocyclic metal complexes, followed by porphyrin and acyclic ligand metal complexes as a postdoctoral fellow, to his work on calixarene and dendrimeric metal complexes.

Current research focuses not only on MR contrast agent development, but also incorporation of other multi-modality imaging agents such as optical and radioactive. In addition to synthesis, the research includes physical characterization such as NMR dispersion profiles (relaxometry), in-vitro cellular labeling, and targeted in-vivo biodistribution and imaging.

Dr. Bryant also serves as the laboratory manager for the Imaging Sciences and has established the Molecular Imaging Laboratory and the Imaging Probe Development Center.
