Volunteer Training

New Volunteer Orientation Requirements
Initial orientation must be completed in person and includes the following:
Customer Service, Diversity Appreciation & Communication, Safety & Emergency Procedures, Fire Safety, Patient Confidentiality and Universal Precautions.
In addition to the in class training, the following are required:
- NIH Information Security Awareness Course (only volunteers with computer access)
- NIH Privacy Awareness Training
- NIH Environmental Management Systems (NEMS) Awareness Training
NIH Clinical Center Annual Training Requirements
- Safety and Emergency Procedures (these can be done online or in class)
- Patient Safety
- Emergency Procedures
- Fire Safety
- Infection Control
- Standard/Universal Precautions
- Prevention of Tuberculosis
- Patient Confidentiality and Privacy
- NIH Information Security Awareness Course (only volunteers with computer access)
- NIH Privacy Awareness Training
- NIH Environmental Management Systems (NEMS) Awareness Training
NIH Clinical Center Periodic Competency Requirements
- Customer Service (every 3 years)
- Diversity Appreciation and Communication (every 3 years)
- NIH Clinical Center Performance Improvement (as required by Supervisor)
