The NIH Clinical Center is always interested in obtaining new volunteer applicants. To be considered, please select and fill out the appropriate forms based on your interest:

Step 2: Interview
If your application is approved you will be required to attend an interview to discuss your volunteer goals and objectives. The Volunteer Services staff will assist placement within a department that best suits your skill set. Language interpreters will be required to take a verbal and written test to determine their competency level.
Step 3: Orientation
Mandatory on-site orientation includes a one-day overview of the history and mission of the Clinical Center and Volunteer Services Program, requirements for volunteering, and mandatory information consistent with the Joint Commission requirements for hospital volunteers regarding fire safety, patient confidentiality and infection control. Language interpreters will receive additional job specific training regarding interpretation.
Step 4: Background Check and Tuberculosis Screening
A background check must be completed. This will be done as part of the volunteer ID badge process. No one can volunteer without obtaining an NIH ID badge. Provide proof of a negative TB test completed within the past year. This must be obtained through an outside facility unless your position qualifies you to receive at the Clinical Center.
2013 Summer Volunteer Program Information
The Clinical Center Summer Volunteer Program places individuals in Clinical Center Departments, Inpatient Units and Outpatient Clinics. These positions are focused on customer service and clerical duties which provide both direct and indirect patient service. Please note that these positions are NOT research/laboratory focused.
To be eligible, you MUST be 16 years of age on or before your start date. You must be able to work a minimum of 8 weeks unless the position specifically asks for a short-term volunteer. You must be fluent in English.

Step 2: Interview
If your application is selected, you will be contacted for an interview. During this interview, we will discuss your interests, availability and positions we have.
Step 3: Orientation and ID Badge Process
All volunteers are required to attend orientation regarding hospital policies and procedures. This is general information. You will receive on the job training by your assigned supervisor.
You will obtain a summer volunteer ID badge. As part of this process a background check is required. No one can volunteer without obtaining an NIH ID badge. You will receive this paperwork (must be signed by a parent/guardian if you are under 18) if you are selected for a position.
