Collaborating with NIH Intramural Investigators at the Clinical Center

Funding Opportunities

Funding is available for partnering with NIH intramural collaborators and accessing NIH resources via the following mechanisms:

  • NIH has issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement for "Opportunities for Collaborative Research at the NIH Clinical Center" (U01). This funding mechanism will allow extramural investigators to establish collaborations with NIH intramural investigators and to utilize the special research opportunities available in the NIH intramural program.

    • Research projects must have a collaborating Principal Investigator/Co-Investigator in the NIH Intramural Program and must describe a research plan that will take advantage of its special resources and opportunities.

    • Applications may request a budget of up to $500,000 (direct costs) per year for a period of up to 3 years.

    • If you have general questions about implementing a partnership with the NIH intramural community via this mechanism, you may consult our Frequently Asked Questions.

    • If you have specific questions about formulating the project budget, please visit the U01 page.

  • Administrative supplements are available for NIH grants for two-year Bench-to-Bedside projects, which involve a partnership between NIH intramural and extramural investigators pursuing a translational research project. This award provides up to $135,000 per year in direct costs for up to 2 years.

  • You may also be able to utilize other NIH grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts as a vehicle for accessing intramural resources under certain conditions. For more information please contact ClinicalCtrPartner@mail.nih.gov.
