Courses

  • Principles of Clinical Pharmacology
This course consists of a weekly lecture series covering the fundamentals of clinical pharmacology as a translational scientific discipline focused on rational drug development and utilization in therapeutics. The recommended textbook is Principles of Clinical Pharmacology, Third Edition (2012) edited by Arthur J. Atkinson, Jr., et al. and published by Academic Press/Elsevier. The course is taught by faculty members from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and guest faculty from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the pharmaceutical industry, and several academic institutions from across the United States.
  • Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research
The Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR) course is based on a curriculum on how to effectively conduct clinical research.  Many academic medical centers lack a formal course in training for clinical research, and investigators have relied on mentors to learn how to conduct clinical trials. This course formalizes that instruction. The recommended textbook is Principles and Practice of Clinical Research, Third Edition (2012), edited by John I. Gallin and Frederick P. Ognibene and published by Academic Press/Elsevier.
  • Clinical Research Training On-Line Course for Principal Investigators (Continuous open registration [disclaimer])
This is a web-based course that addresses one of the essential standards (Training and Education) approved by the NIH for performing clinical research in the Intramural Research Program. All NIH intramural clinical principal investigators are required to take the course and successfully complete a final exam.

  • Bioethics
The Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Clinical Research course is offered to anyone interested or involved in clinical research involving human subjects.
