Graduate Medical Education (GME)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers a variety of graduate medical education (GME) experiences and research training opportunities to highly qualified individuals interested in pursuing careers as physician-scientists, clinician-investigators, or institutionally based academicians. The NIH sponsors 15 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited GME programs; supports ACGME-accredited, jointly sponsored programs with several extramural training partners within the greater Washington, DC area; and sponsors numerous non-ACGME-accredited fellowship training programs within its 27 Institutes and Centers.
