The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland is conducting a study with the medication (Actos®). The goal of this study is to determine if Actos® is effective for treating severe asthma. Patients will receive the medication and a placebo. The study involves 14 to 15 visits over a period of 48 weeks.
You may be eligible if you:
- are between 18-75 years of age
- have had a diagnosis of severe asthma for at least one year
- are being treated with oral steroids
You may not be eligible if you:
- have a history of diabetes
- are pregnant or nursing
- have smoked cigarettes within the past year
- have a history of emphysema or sarcoidosis
