Doctors at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) invite you to participate in a study looking at the effect of a cortisol blocking medication on glucose and cholesterol abnormalities.
You may qualify if you:
- Are 35-70 years old
- Are overweight
- Have abnormal glucose and triglyceride (a form of ‘bad’ cholesterol) levels but are not on any medications for it
The study involves:
- Initial screening visit with general health assessment
- Treatment with a cortisol blocking medication (mifepristone) or non-active pill (placebo) for seven days. Each individual will take both study agents separated by six to eight weeks
- Testing before and after study agents will include blood drawing over 24 hours, urine collection, an intravenous glucose tolerance test, and 1-2 day overnight inpatient stay
