Non-invasive Imaging of Heart Failure Study

The Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland is looking for volunteers to participate in a 24-month research study. This research study is investigating the use of non-invasive imaging in measuring the elasticity of the heart muscle and the heart’s ability to circulate blood through the body in two groups of people.

Patients diagnosed with Heart Failure

Four seniors walking along a beach at sunset.You may be eligible if you:

  • are 18 years of age and older
  • have a diagnosis of heart failure
  • are able to undergo an MRI and/or CT scan
  • are willing to travel to the NIH for initial screening and follow-up visits

You may not be eligible if you:

  • have coronary disease, lupus, diabetes, or renal failure
  • are claustrophobic
  • are hypersensitive/allergic to iodine contrast
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding

Healthy Volunteers

Two active seniors riding bikes in a park.You may be eligible if you:

  • are 18 years of age and older
  • do not have a diagnosis of heart failure or other heart problems
  • are able to undergo an MRI and/or CT scan
  • are willing to travel to the NIH for initial screening and follow-up visits

You may not be eligible if you:

  • are claustrophobic
  • are hypersensitive/allergic to iodine contrast
  • have coronary disease, lupus, diabetes, or renal failure
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding

There is no cost to you for study-related tests. Participation in this study will be compensated.
