Recreational Therapy Calendar for March 13-19, 2011

SCHMALFELDT: From the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, this is your Recreation Therapy Update for the third week of March 2011.

First of all, let me remind you that you can always use the Clinical Center Hospital Theater Video Guide to check out the movie channels for some top-notch Hollywood entertainment!

Monday, March 14th and every weekday, the Main Playroom is open on the First Floor, room number 1-5673, from 10 until noon, then from 1 until 3. Pediatric patients and children of adult patients are invited to enjoy the games, toys, electronics and family-centered care activities! The Patient Library on the 7th Floor, room number 7-1580, is open from 11 am until 9 pm Monday through Thursday, 11 until 4 Friday and Saturday, with everything from today's newspaper to the latest in fiction, music, DVDs and much, much more! The Recreation and Leisure Connection is open for business in the First Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room, room number 1-2340 from 1 until 4 on Monday, 1 until 3 other weekdays for people 13 and older. Make plans to enjoy the Vibroacoustic Relaxation Chairs in the 1st floor Relaxation Room, room number 1-1341 starting at 2 p.m., and experience the relaxing benefits of these uniquely-designed vibro-acoustic recliners. Call 301-402-8747 to reserve a time and a seat. The Patient Fitness Center is open on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room, room number 7-3551 from 4 until 6. Remember, all patients must be 16 or older and have a signed medical clearance form. And don't miss the therapy dog visit from 7 until 8 in the 7th floor CRC Piano Lounge.

On Tuesday, March 15th, kids 13 and older can make St. Patrick's Day cards in the Creative Workshop in the 1st Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room from 10 until noon. You can take advantage of those Vibroacoustic Relaxation Chairs starting at 1 p.m. Call 301-402-8747 to reserve a time and a chair. The Recreation and Leisure Connection is open from 1 until 3 in the First Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room and as a special activity, you'll be making mosaic tile art. And you'll have two opportunities to use the Patient Fitness Center on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room -- 1 until 3 and 4:30 until 6:30.

On Wednesday, March 16th you'll have THREE opportunities to work on your fitness in the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room -- from 10 until 11, then again from 1 until 3 and 4 until 6. The vibroacoustic chairs are available in the 1st floor Relaxation Room starting at 2 p.m. It's Chair Pilates as part of the Wellness Program in the 1st Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room from 2 until 4. Then come back for Bingo at 6:30.

On Thursday, March 17th, kids aged 13 and older can make a St. Patrick's Day mini tray in the Creative Workshop in the 1st Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room from 10 until noon. Once again, you'll have THREE opportunities to work on your fitness in the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room -- from 10 until 11, then again from 1 until 3 and 4 until 6. Those luxurious vibroacoustic chairs are available today, starting at 4 p.m. And don't miss the St. Patrick's Day Party starting at 5:30 in the 1st Floor CRC Patio Open Area.

On Friday, March 18th, the Patient Fitness Center is open on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room from 10 until 11. And the vibroacoustic chairs are available starting at 11. Friday and Saturday, the Patient Library is open from 11 until 4.

On Saturday, March 19th, there's a trip to the National Gallery of Art at 1. Call 301-496-2233 by noon on Saturday to reserve your seat. Then be in the first floor north lobby by 12:55 with an NIH ID and a Doctor's Pass. Or, you can keep fit by working out in the Patient Fitness Center on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room from 2 until 3 p.m.
