SCHMALFELDT: From the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, this is your Recreation Therapy Update for the first full week of July 2010.
First of all, let me remind you that you can always use the Clinical Center Hospital Theater Video Guide to check out the movie channels for some top-notch Hollywood entertainment!
Monday, July 5th is the federal observance of Independence Day. But the Patient Library on the 7th floor, Room 7-1580, is open from 11 until 4, and the Patient Fitness Center in the 7th floor Exercise Room is open from 2 until 3. All patients must be 16 or older and have a signed medical clearance form.
Tuesday, July 6th and every non-holiday weekday, the Main Playroom is open on the First Floor, room number 1-5673, from 10 until noon, then from 1 until 3. Pediatric patients and children of adult patients are invited to enjoy the games, toys, electronics and family-centered care activities! The Patient Library on the 7th Floor, room number 7-1580, is open from 11 am until 9 pm through Thursday, 11 until 4 Friday and Saturday, with everything from today's newspaper to the latest in fiction, music, DVDs and much, much more! Kids 13 and older can make a patriotic box in the Creative Workshop in the 1st Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room from 10 until noon. Enjoy the Therapy Dog visit in the 1st floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room from 10:45 until 11:45. You can take advantage of the Vibroacoustic Relaxation Chairs in the 1st floor Relaxation Room, that's room 1-2340, starting at 1 p.m. Call 301-402-8747 to reserve a time and a chair. The Recreation and Leisure Connection is open from 1 until 3 in the First Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room, and you'll have two opportunities to use the Patient Fitness Center on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room -- 1 until 3 and 4:30 until 6:30.
On Wednesday, July 7th, you can enjoy some spin art as part of the Family Centered Care in the 1st Floor Main Playroom from 10 until noon. You'll have THREE opportunities to work on your fitness in the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room -- from 10 until 11, then again from 1 until 3 and 4 until 6. The vibroacoustic chairs are available in the 1st floor Relaxation Room starting at 2 p.m. Call 301-402-8747 to reserve a time and a chair. Enjoy Chair Pilates as part of the Wellness program in the 1st Floor Recreation Therapy room from 2 until 4. Then come back for Bingo at 6:30.
On Thursday, July 8th, kids aged 13 and older can create a tile trivet in the Creative Workshop in the 1st Floor Recreation Therapy Clinic Room from 10 until noon. Once again, you'll have THREE opportunities to work on your fitness in the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room -- from 10 until 11, then again from 1 until 3 and 4 until 6. Those luxurious vibroacoustic chairs are available today, starting at 4 p.m. And there's Washington D.C. Monument Walking Tour Trip starting at 6:30. Call 301-496-2233 by 3pm Thursday to reserve your spot, then meet at 6:25 in the 1st Floor North Lobby with an NIH ID and a doctor's pass.
On Friday, July 9th, the Patient Fitness Center is open on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room from 10 until 11. And the vibroacoustic chairs are available starting at 11. Friday and Saturday, the Patient Library is open from 11 until 4.
And you can wrap up the week on Saturday, July 10th by keeping keep fit working out in the Patient Fitness Center on the 7th Floor Recreation Therapy Exercise Room from 2 until 3 p.m.
