The National Institutes
of Health (NIH) is one of the world's foremost biomedical research centers.
The twenty-five institutes and research
divisions of the NIH conduct and support research on almost every disease
and disability. Patients from all over the United States and the world, who
consent to participate in research protocols, are admitted to the
NIH Clinical Center. The Clinical Center is a 250-bed
hospital that contains numerous research laboratories and a large outpatient
clinic. Surrounding the Clinical Center are buildings housing research labs,
administrative offices, conference centers and the National
Library of Medicine.
The NIH campus is located
in Bethesda, Maryland minutes away from Washington, DC. NIH is located on
the red line of the subway system called
"The Metro". The Medical Center stop allows easy access to the
Nation's capital so that you can take advantage of the city's many cultural,
historical, and recreational opportunities. NIH is also linked to the Montgomery
County bus system called the "Ride-on"
