Thomas H. Shawker, MD

Dr. Thomas Shawker is chief of Ultrasound in the Diagnostic Radiology Department of the Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, a position he has held since 1976. He has authored or co-authored over 200 manuscripts and book chapters and is the Immediate Past President of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, a national ultrasound society. He has twice served on the Board of Govenors for the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and has served as chairman of numerous committees for various ultrasound and radiological organizations. He currently serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Ultrasound Quarterly.

Dr. Shawker's research interest include intraoperative ultrasound (both open surgery and laparoscopic), radiofrequency ablation using ultrasound guidance, 3-D ultrasound, and ultrasound of endocrine organs.
