Therapeutic Apheresis

Patients in the Clinical Center who are being treated on a protocol which does not include apheresis, but need to have a medically indicated apheresis procedure performed, may be scheduled in the Clinic after consultation with the DTM fellow. These procedures include cellular depletion, plasma exchange and red cell exchange. If a procedure is considered an emergency measure, it may be scheduled for weekend days. It is necessary to plan elective procedures for Monday - Friday, 8 am to 2 pm. Weekend days are covered by a single on-call nurse and are available for emergencies only.

The DTM fellow may be reached by:
Phone : (301) 496-4506
Fax : (301) 402-1360
Beeper: (301) 285-6670

To contact the clinic after this consultation for scheduling call: (301) 496-1430

IMPORTANT: If your patient needs blood samples drawn on the morning of apheresis please send labeled tubes and transmittal sheets to the clinic with the patient. This will save the patient a venipuncture and will preserve a good vein for use during apheresis.
