NIH Sickle Cell Cord Blood Research Program

How will the donation process affect birth plans?

The collection will not interfere with birth plans and will not affect the delivery of the baby in any way. We have a trained specialist to collect the cord blood. This way the healthcare provider can look after the mother and baby, and the cord blood specialist can take care of the cord blood collection. This ensures the highest quality of care to the mother, to the baby and for the cord blood.
