Biosketch

Dr. Shawker received his MD from the University of Maryland and completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency there in 1973. He received his Board Certification in 1974. From 1976 to 1987, he was in the U.S. Public Health Service. Dr. Shawker was appointed Professor of Radiology at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, 1987-1992 and Professor of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences, 1997 to 2006.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, Dr. Shawker is also a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound. He was President of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound 1995-1997. He was a Councilor, American College of Radiology 1997-2000 and in 2003-2006.

Dr. Shawker’s primary interest is in ultrasound imaging and he has lectured both in the United States and in many foreign countries. In addition to serving on many editorial boards, he is the author of two books and has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. He currently is the Chief of the Diagnostic Ultrasound Section.
