The significance of Java in implementing this code is twofold:

• (1) Java is a (nearly) platform-independent software designed for on-line processing, far-extending the capabilities of HTML for web based teaching files.
• (2) Java utilizes objected-oriented-programming. This allows programs to inherit features of other programs. For this application, generic code to control annonations, videos, and image selections was written only once. A short program with the desired images inherits this control code. This greatly simplifies code development.
