For TCI Residents Sent to Suburban Hospital ER for Evaluation
1. Patients or family members residing at The Children’s Inn (TCI) who require evaluation at Suburban Hospital Emergency Room for urgent or emergent medical problems should be given the following:
Emergency Medical Treatment Authorization form. This form was developed jointly with TCI and printed up by Suburban Hospital for the Inn resident. It is turned in immediately upon arrival to the ER and directs Suburban as to how billing is to be handled.
TCI Emergency Room (ER) Checklist
(16 KB) that provides the following information:
- Identifies the patient or family member as a resident of TCI.
- Provides instructions to the ER physicians to request a signed consent for release of medical information to TCI to permit assessment for medical clearance when patient returns to The Inn.
- Instructs the patient or family member to obtain a copy of the discharge information sheet from the ER that documents the diagnosis, treatment, and instructions given.
2. When the ER evaluation is complete, patients and parents should be advised to meet directly with the staff Manager On Duty as soon as they arrive at The Inn.
3. The Manager on Duty will contact Hospital Epidemiology (through the NIH page operator 301-496-1211) to review the ER discharge sheet and obtain medical clearance for the patient to return to the Inn. This policy ensures that individuals who are diagnosed with medical conditions that may pose a threat to the health of other Inn residents, do not return to the Inn and put residents at risk.
