Purpose/Goal: To expand the reporting of the Executive Information System (EIS) to provide
more useful data indicators for management decision-making.
Scope: The EIS will be updated to report departmental activities aligned with the established Activity Based Costing
system categories. The system expansion will review reporting in the following areas:
• inpatient days • outpatient visits
• admissions • budget reports by department
• FTE reports by department • financial reports
• protocol costs by Institute • protocol costs by physician
• activity costs • FTE turnover reporting
• overtime reporting • on board count
• strategic project mgmt status report • PI improvement indicators
• contract listing • service intensity indicators
Resources: The resources required to accomplish the revitalization and enhancement of the EIS system may be a limited
amount of IT contract staff.
Timeline: Revitalization component will be completed January 2000
Enhancement component will be done in phases October 2001
Outcomes: Completion of the EIS will enable departments, CC leadership and Institute personnel to have easy access to pertinent information for decision making and day-to-day management of hospital operations. According
to needs, end users will have access to updated budget, FTE, staffing, census, protocol and strategic management information at least monthly.
