Purpose/Goal: The NIH Family Lodge Project will provide temporary housing for families and
loved ones of adult patients while in treatment at the Clinical Research Center.
Scope: FY 2001 will focus on the design process for the lodge. The development of the NIH
Family Lodge is a partnership between the NIH Clinical Center and the Foundation
for the NIH, Inc. The Foundation has committed to raising $9M to fund the design
and construction of the NIH Family Lodge. The Lodge will be located between the
Cloister and the CRC on the corner of Center Drive and Convent Drive. Construction procurement to be completed by February 2002. Construction is estimated to take
approximately one year and anticipated completion of the NIH Family Lodge is
early 2003 and occupancy will occur by mid-2003.
Resources: Funds to be raised by NIH Foundation. No new resources are required of Clinical Center.
Timeline: Design contract awarded September, 2000
Programming interviews and site visits completed October, 2000
Initial Design phase November 2000 thru Spring 2001
Final Program and Final Schematic Design February, 2001
Design Development June, 2001
70% Construction Drawings September, 2001
Preliminary Design February, 2001
Outcomes: FY 2001 success will be the completed design of the Family Lodge.
