Description

As part of the CC's long-range goal of providing clinical research support and training, a post-doctoral research training program in clinical pharmacology (ClinPRAT) is being established in conjunction with NIGMS. As part of this initiative, a core course in Principles of Clinical Pharmacology is being offered at the CC and has been made generally available to interested individuals in metropolitan Washington and by videoconferencing to Georgetown University.

Accomplishments-to-Date

  • Program Director brought to the CC
  • Steering Committee for the program selected to shape form and content of the program and of a core course in Principles of Clinical Pharmacology
  • ClinPRAT web site created
  • Coordinator for ClinPRAT Program recruited
  • Principles of Clinical Pharmacology Course offered from September 1998 through April 1999. Registration reached 180 individuals from NIH, FDA,
    and other DC area institutions
  • First ClinPRAT fellow recruited to start fellowship in July 1999
  • Course task force met to plan 1999-2000 course and to accept offer from Academic Press to prepare a textbook based upon the course

FY2000 Goals

  • Recruit 3 fellows to begin ClinPRAT program in July 2000
  • Provide revised version of course in "Priniciples of Clinical Pharmacology"
  • Prepare text on "Priniciples of Clinical Pharmacology" by November 1, 2000
  • Provide leadership for NIH Interest Group in Clinical Pharmacology
